A quality-conscious process for the best end
product
The quality approach controls the entire
process at Kubal from inspection of the incoming raw materials,
through care of the pots, to the final end products, which are delivered
to customers by road, rail and sea.
The first quality inspection of the metal is performed in the pot
before it is tapped. Further samples are taken after tapping, and
analysed in an optical spectrometer, which reveals any traces of
foreign materials, such as iron. The objective is to produce as
pure a metal as possible.
The next stop is the holding furnaces, where the metal is prepared
for use in various different applications. With suitable alloying
elements, aluminium can be given an extremely wide range of properties,
tailored exactly to suit the needs of the final product and in accordance
with customer specifications.
After pouring, the molten metal solidifies into slabs or extrusion
billets. This is followed by further processing, inspection and
loading for delivery.
Substantial investments have been made in the cast shop in recent
years. One of the most recent investments is the Hot Top Air Slip,
which is a modern casting method that improves the quality of the
extrusion billets, enabling extrusion process speeds to be increased.
Another recent investment is a homogeneous furnace construction
for longer billets. With these investment´s Kubal has taken
another step in the devolpment to meet the customer´s increasing
demands on slabs and extrusion billets.
In 1994, Kubal received proof of its successful quality work through
receipt of ISO 9001 certification. This is a quality approval which
guarantees that the company meets all aspects of stringently specified
performance requirements. It also establishes a standard that acts
as a guarantee for the future.
